WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe today announced that Bath Iron Works recently was awarded a $42,759,000 contract by Naval Sea Systems Command for the continuation of DD(X) design efforts and material procurement for ship construction. The work is expected to be completed in June 2006.
“I am thrilled that Naval Sea Systems Command has once again confirmed that Bath built is indeed best built by awarding them this contract,” said Snowe. “I am confident that the world-class workers at Bath Iron Works will once again deliver an outstanding product. I am proud of this shipyard for both its commitment to excellence and for its longstanding support of our nation’s military. Our Navy has the most advanced ships in the world and I will continue to fight for future contracts to be awarded to BIW so that we can keep our Navy strong and protect our national security.”
